Mexican Cheese Crackers

I am surprised I haven't already posted this since it's one of the snack mixes I have been making at Christmas for years (ever since my mother found the recipe and shared it). It's very simple, with one main ingredient and a quick seasoning packet. As far as snack mixes go, it doesn't get much easier than this. With all the different cheese crackers available these days, this recipe can be a bit more personalized.

1 (14.5 oz) box cheese crackers
1/2 C butter
1 package taco seasoning mix
1 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp seasoned salt

Preheat oven to 250° F. Place crackers in large shallow baking pan. In small pan, melt butter. Add remaining ingredients and combine will. Pour mix over crackers and stir to mix. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Cool on wax paper. Store in airtight container.

Yield: 6 cups

Notes: I used Cheez-It Cheddar Jack crackers which have a slightly more intense cheese flavor than the regular Cheez-Its. For kids, make it fun and use Goldfish. The seasoning mix I used was a Taco Bell mix, although I have a couple McCormick mixes here I considered using (mild and hot). I think the Taco Bell mix was the right choice. Pass this out at Christmas and your friends and family will thank you for the break from overcooked Nuts and Bolts!
